Question

SUM producing error in metric, but not table

Hiya,

I’m a novice and have been working through getting some metrics created for my company. I’m attempting to sum Metric A. I can do this in a table without any issue, but as soon as I create Metric B that is SUM(Metric A), it produces an error. I’ve tried incorporating ifnull and swapping attributes I’m locking it on, but that has seemingly had no impact whatsoever.

If you could sum a metric in a table, but couldn’t directly in the metric, how would you approach troubleshooting?

Appreciate any steering or help that can be provided!

Hello Kyle,

Generally speaking you always have to start your metric with the SELECT statement.

If you are still having issues, could you please send your metric definition over here? What is the error that you are getting? Could you also let us know the product that you are using? Is it GoodData Cloud?

I also recommend taking a look at the MAQL course available for free in our University portal: GoodData University
