Hi there, I'm looking for a way to monitor Gooddata usage by end users. Any built in feature or way to connect a Gooddata organization to Mixpanel/Amplitude etc. ? Thanks in advance for your help

Thinking completed Hi! Great question. Here's a summary of your options for monitoring GoodData usage by end users and connecting to tools like Mixpanel or Amplitude. Built-in GoodData Usage Monitoring Options 1. Usage Analytics (Telemetry) GoodData Cloud collects internal usage statistics, including: • Interactions with UI elements and APIs • Dashboard and AFM execution counts, by user/workspace/object • Daily granularity (no precise timestamps or fine-grained interaction details) This data is collected via third-party tools including Amplitude and Matomo internally by GoodData. However, this is for GoodData's own product improvement purposes — it is not directly exposed to customers as a self-service feature. To get access to a Usage Analytics workspace for your organization, you need to contact your GoodData Account Owner. [Usage Data] Limitations: • No per-widget or filter-change tracking • No dashboard → visualization relationship (can't say "visual X was viewed N times") • Daily granularity only 2. Audit Logs (Enterprise tier only) For detailed, timestamped user activity, Audit Logs are the most complete built-in option. They capture events such as: •
DATA_ACCESS
– user accessed a dashboard or visualization (includes the target ID) •
DATA_EXPORT_INITIATE
/
DATA_EXPORT_RETRIEVE
– user initiated or downloaded an export •
SCHEDULED_MAIL_SEND
– a scheduled email was sent Logs are delivered to your own S3 bucket, so you can build custom reporting on top — including feeding data into Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any other analytics tool. [Audit Log docs] Limitations: • Enterprise tier only • Requires S3 bucket setup • Filter-change events are not explicitly documented as being captured Connecting to Mixpanel / Amplitude There is no native, out-of-the-box integration between GoodData and Mixpanel or Amplitude for end-user tracking. However, there are two practical approaches: A. Audit Logs → Your Analytics Tool If you're on Enterprise, you can consume the JSON events from your S3 bucket and forward them to Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any other platform via your own pipeline. B. SDK Event Listeners (for embedded dashboards) If you embed GoodData dashboards using the React UI SDK, you can listen to dashboard events directly in your host app and forward them to any analytics tool:
Copy code
import "@gooddata/sdk-ui-dashboard/styles/css/main.css";
import { Dashboard, anyEventHandler } from "@gooddata/sdk-ui-dashboard";
import { idRef } from "@gooddata/sdk-model";

const dashboardRef = idRef("<dashboard-identifier>");

const EmbeddedReactDashboard = () => {
    return (
        <Dashboard
            dashboard={dashboardRef}
            eventHandlers={[
                anyEventHandler((e) => {
                    console.log("Dashboard event fired:", e);
                    // Send to Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.
                }),
            ]}
        />
    );
};
[Dashboard events] This approach lets you capture events (including filter changes) and send them to any third-party analytics tool of your choice. This is a custom implementation, not a built-in GoodData feature. C. iFrame PostMessage Events If you embed via iFrame rather than the React SDK, the iFrame emits a set of documented events (e.g.,
loaded
,
filterContextChanged
,
drillToUrlStarted
) that you can capture with
window.addEventListener
in your host app and forward to your analytics tool. [iFrame events] Summary The SDK event handler or iFrame PostMessage approach is likely your best path to feeding data into Mixpanel or Amplitude, depending on how you embed GoodData. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @kapa.ai in the thread for follow-ups. 👀 Our Support team monitors all messages and will jump in if needed., with interactive elements

Hi Etienne, To better assist you in finding the best option, could you please provide more details about what you would like to achieve? Specifically, could you clarify what you mean by "GoodData Usage"? Are you referring to access, executions, logins, etc.. or something else? Thank you!
e
Hi Mauricio, Interesting in knowing who's doing what on goodata (users are a mix of internal users and customers)
so want to measure adoption, retention, most use dashboards or features, filters etc..

Hi Etienne, thank you for the clarification and for sharing your use case. I’ve contacted your account manager, @Iva Stastna, and she will reach out to you to discuss the options.
gratitude thank you 1

Hi Etienne, Happy to help here! I believe that we have exactly what you are looking for. Would it be ok if I contact you via separate email and share all the information with you that way?

Yes all good - actually @Pablo Castro also answered so I let you see who should handle this request 🙂
