Any guidance on upgrading from gooddata/gooddata-cn-ce:dev_20230517.a881988f (I believe this equates to 2.3.1?) to gooddata/gooddata-cn-ce:2.5.1? I was on this dev version because the stable build in May 2023 did not support deploying to analytics.mysite.com without a bug that was currently resolved in this build.

Hi Jeffrey, You can find the general info regarding how to upgrade GoodData CN here: https://www.gooddata.com/docs/versions/upgrade-guide/ Should you need any additional help or advice, please let us know.

General approach from Dev to this though, is that an upgrade to a major version or do I need to download the map and install fresh and reimport the map?

If you are using a docker volume to store metadata (this is default - data are stored in
gd-volume
), pull the new CN image and start it with
gd-volume
If you’ve made some changes and store metadata elsewhere, follow https://www.gooddata.com/docs/versions/upgrade-guide/#UpgradeGuides-GeneralUpgradeGuide specifically backup md from your current CN image and restore to new image version of CN However I recommend to do the backup of organization either way. You’ll need to run 3.0.0 version first as physical data model was removed and this version contains procedure which triggers logical data model enrichment procedure. Described in release notes https://support.gooddata.com/hc/en-us/articles/21948942400659-GoodData-CN-3-0-0 And then move to newer version.
Important note mentioned in the 3.0.0 release notes GoddData CN.CE from version 3.0.0 requires a valid license key to run. Without a license key it is not possible to start CE image.

Got it. And as I understand, you pivoted from open source to close source. So this is a paid license or a fixed day trial at 3.0 and up correct?
j
From 3.0 and up it is a paid license.. Feel free to reach out to your account owner contact from GD to sort this out. If you don’t have any and you are interested to get a license, let me know and I’ll get you in touch with someone from GD.
