Hi GoodData team Can I ask you if there is a way to add a text description to an attribute / fact, visible when the "?" panel opens, or would it be product feedback? The reason this could be helpful is to ensure our customers can understand what they are selecting when building a report, without having to consult our data documentation in our knowledge base. Thanks in advance

Hello Raffaella, Thank you for the question. It is possible to add a description to a metric when a user hovers the question mark. When you are creating the metric, under untitled metric, where you enter metric name, there is a box with placeholder "description". You can enter the description that fits the metric and save it. When a user hovers over the question mark, it will show the description. I have attached screenshots on how it works. Please let me know if you need further help.

Hi, I am talking about attributes and facts, not metrics.

Hello, I am sorry, I have not understood your question clearly. It seems that it is not possible add "description" to attributes and facts. I can raise this as product feedback. Please let me know if I can help with anything else. Thank you again for your cooperation.
r
Thank you! Yes, please, could you raise this as product feedback on our behalf?

Actually, I think it is a bit more complicated 🙂 Ismail is right that it is not there out of the box and there is no place where to edit the description of the attribute or fact in the UI. But the metadata field “description” exists and it is even displayed under the (?) if there is some value. But how to fill the value in when there is no UI for that - well one of the options is: • in the modeller export the data model into a JSON file (under the three dots menu) • open the downloaded file in a text editor and modify it - find “description” of the attribute/fact and modify it • use the three dots menu to import the model back • (if there are no other changes, you might need to do some small change in the modeller UI, like rename some attribute to allow to publish the changes) • publish the model change then your attributes and facts descriptions should appear It is not ideal experience, but I hope it still helps in the meantime. Other ways how to achieve this currently would be via data model API or the VS Code extension beta.

That's great to know we have this option, Michal; it's a shame it's not available in the UI as for this kind of change we'll then need to use developer resources. Would be great then if the product feedback could reflect that what we need is in fact a way to perform this action and leverage this existing feature, but from the UI.

I fully Agree. Let me share this feedback with the product team.
