heyhey, I have another question: We have a dashboard configured with a “drill into visualisation” interaction. Alternatively, there is another 2-Step Drill down configured, and the user can choose between the two. Now, when I drill into the visualisation, I have the option to drill further from there, but the result is always a failure. It seems to me that the new visualisation still remembered that we had a “drill down” option defined on the original, and it fails to apply that second drill down step, since the visualisation is a different one. Can we either disable that second step after a “drill into”, or have the chance to define further drill paths after “drill into”?
Actually, I found a second simpler scenario that breaks: We have an area chart (as above), which is stacked by “Problem Group”. The Group can be broken down into “Problem Type”, but a simple drill down into “Problem Type” is failling. Most likely a bug with drilling down into stacked area charts?

Hi Thomas, I was playing around with drilling but I must say that I wasn’t able to reproduce anything similar that you are describing. Could you please send us trace ID of the error you are receiving?

Hi Thomas, I am wondering if you still need our assistance on this
t
Hi, I think this issue is to 80% solved by now. Let me describe what I found: The drilling into the other chart did not work, because of a MAQL formula that wasn’t applicable on the filter level that we were going into. This is fixed now, but we have a follow up issue that we don’t think we can get around. The setup is very specific: Our visualisation has 2 drilling options defined: a normal drill down “Problem Group” -> “Problem Type”, and a “drill into” which switches over to another visualisation with a filter applied on “Customer”. For both drill downs we disabled filtering by Date, so that drilling always only applies to one dimension. When I now apply the “drill into”, I get correctly into the next visualisation. Here I still seem to have the “Problem Group” -> “Problem Type” Drilling option (so I think that carries over?). But when I apply it, it is also filtering on the date, even though we initially turned that off.

Hi Thomas, could you please share with us the direct link (or id) of the involved visualisation to investigate further (feel free to use DM), Thank you.
Hi Thomas, thank you for the DM. I have impersonated your orgID using our Admin user. May I ask, with this "Drill into" you mean the
'Cross-Filter' -> 'Problem Group'
right? Now, let me check if I understood. You have the visualisation, when you click in a dot you see the attached image. Then if you click in
Problem Type
you will see the new chart, until there all right. But when you click again in a dot on that new popped up visualisation, it will drill again (without see the
"Problem Type"
option) to another chart that will show the week which corresponds to the clicked dot. As you said the Date filtering is deactivated, you would not expect the second popped up visualisation filtered by the date. Is that right?
t
it is on this one: under the headline “*Trend of Tickets Received [#] for “Top 10 customer”"*

do the “drill into” first
j
Hi Thomas, I was following up on this and I struggle to understand what is the issue here. When you disable the date filter on the interaction into the “Ticket ration by problem…” insight, it will simply take you to the insight filtered by customer but not by specific date where you clicked. If you enable the filtering of the date, the drilling will take you into the specific Week on which you’ve clicked. That is correct and expected behaviour. However, let me know if you are querying something else.
t
The problem with this is: when you disabled the date filter and go into “ticket ratio by problem group”, you get a correct drill into a new chart. When you click again in this new chart, it drills down further into the Brand Name, but WITH date filter, even though we disabled that.
So: 1. Drill into 2. Click on any bar to drill down now Expectation: see a chart that is NOT filtered by date -> it should show multiple bars
j
Yeah but I’m afraid that when you are in the drilled visualisation it doesn’t behave like normal visualisation which have some drilling set.
t
Yeah, my problem is: There is no visibility and no way to set anything about the drilling behaviour in that visualisation.
j
Got you. Thank you for the confirmation. I’m afraid we don’t support 2nd level drilling setting, let me double-check on this but I’m afraid I can offer you only product feedback here. This is rather a feature request than a bug.
p
🎉 New note created.
t
thanks for adding that to productboard. In the current state it leaves me with a half functioning board that I cannot fix on my own
j
Understood, I’m sorry that the behaviour does not work as you would hope for. I will also add into the product feedback that the filter passing works with Drill Down but not once you drill into another visualisation.
