Hi, is there a way to just scatter plot X & Y values? This seems like it should be a basic feature, but I haven't figured out how to do it cleanly. I've worked around it by using a scatter plot like in the image below. Note that I have to import my "x" variable ("bin") twice - once as a metric, which I take the average of, and also as a fact, which I view by. My real goal for this endeavor is to display a histogram.

Hi Michael, Thanks for reach out us. Unfortunately there is not 'simple' way to have a Histogram, there could be a workaround like creating different metrics by counting the elements in different ranges. Another way could be using SDK where you can customise it, or using some plugins. I would be happy to submit this as Product Feedback in your behalf. May I ask, an example for the use case?

Do plugins work with embedded Dashboards? Typically, we like to look at the distributions of data, and histograms are the easiest way to do that. I think this is a pretty big gap in the functionality of GoodData. This is one of those items that is hard for me to explain to other stakeholders in our company when they ask "Why can't GoodData do that?" They'll rightly tell me that Excel or Google Sheets can do that. Why can't this expensive analytics platform?
To expound a bit more: We choose GoodData because it embeds and lets us roll out analytics quickly. Our biggest frustration with GoodData are limitations like this. The simple things we can do with a Tableau (for example), but can't with GoodData - like plotting a bunch of x & y points. It seems like GoodData has a better technical foundation than other providers, but it's very frustrating as a user when that foundation limits such obvious use cases.

Hello Michael, thanks for pointing out a feature gap. There was actually already some question on the topic before and some workarounds suggested https://community.gooddata.com/t/18923598/histogram-with-bucketting-frequency-as-an-example-of-what-i- plus the following product feedback on histograms so I am pretty sure this is in backlog of our product team, let us highlight this.
Btw. I am not sure I fully understand the screenshot. What is supposed to be on that histogram exactly?

Hey Jacob, thank you. I did read that thread, actually. But it's a very labor intensive workaround to get this basic functionality. It also ads a lot of "waste" metrics to our dashboards we then have to navigate around (that's another product request: improve the UI for organizing metrics & analytics on large workspaces). I was hoping there was something cleaner. The screen shot is just a "1-binned" histogram shown as a x-y plot.

hm, ok, got it, thanks.
(btw is a yes to plugin vs embedded dashboards)

Here's Google Sheets showing me it as a bar chart:
Here's a histogram with bin size = 5. However, I don't have a way to sort the X axis cleanly:
(And there's no spacing between gaps)

Hi Michael, I would like to confirm we had passed your requirement of Histogram chart (natively) to our Product team.

Thank you, Mauricio.
