Hello. A small question about the delete visualization object endpoint (https://www.gooddata.com/docs/cloud/api-and-sdk/api/api_reference_all/#operation/deleteEntity@VisualizationObjects). What happens in case the visualization is used in a Dashboard and you use this endpoint to delete it?
m
Hi Tomas, there is actually a known bug when you use this resource and delete a visualization used on a dashboard. The dashboard will become broken and you will see a blank page - The only way to fix this currently is to delete the dashboard to restore functionality to the workspace. However, I have just gone ahead and escalated and raised the priority of our internal ticket with our engineers to get this fixed. Unfortunately, at this moment I am unable to provide any ETA on when the fix for this will be rolled out

Hi, thanks for the response. The way to fix it is to use the API to edit the dashboard and delete the reference to the visualization. Anyways, with that issue, it’s not a very usable API at the moment and it is a bit of a blocker, so we’d appreciate a quick fix.
Is there a way to find out in which dashboards a given visualization is used?
m
Hi Tomas, sorry for the delay in getting back to you - But unfortunately, in GoodData Cloud, there is no direct feature in the UI that shows which dashboards a specific visualization is used in. Nor do we have a single API which can be used to find out in which dashboards a given visualization is used.
t
Hi @Michael Ullock, of course you do have that feature
you can even click it to see the list
m
Hi Tomas, my sincere apologies about that, for the UI that shows which dashboards - I was thinking about more of a “Manage” page where you would see where they are located and be able to delete them too based on the previous question about deleting visualizations. Again I’m very sorry for the misunderstanding. The API resource you mention, again this was my mistake and I overlooked this available resource 😕 If I can provide some better news to you from my side, I am happy to report that bug mentioned initially is being worked on with high priority and a fix for this issue is currently being worked on. However, at this moment I cannot provide you with any ETA on when the fix will be rolled out, but I will provide you with more details as they become available.

Hi Tomas, I am happy to announce that misbehavior tied to the deletion of objects, which already belong to existing dashboards was resolved. From now on, there should be a placeholder for deleted visualizations.

Hello! That’s a quick turnaround. Awesome! Thank you very much.
