Is it possible to somehow update the metric/measure format?

Yes, it is possible to update the format. Go to the Manage section -> Metrics and then click on the metric. From here, you can edit the metric's format. Here is a great link that provides information on how to format numbers in your reports: formatting-numbers-in-reports. You can also enable a special feature flag, which will allow you to change the measure formatting directly in Analytical designer: use flag enableCustomMeasureFormatting.
