Userlevel 2

Hi there! We’re so happy you’re joining the GoodData community. Let’s start by giving you a quick overview of what you can expect.

Whether you’re an experienced GoodData user or you’re just getting started, you can find advice, tips, and answers to your questions from the members of the GoodData community. Our members have experience in data loading, data modeling, visualization, administration, and developing custom user interfaces, among many other areas.

Find the right information

To make it easier for you to decide where to post your question—and for you to find other relevant content—we’ve added labels for common categories:

Welcome

The “Welcome” category is for general information, casual conversation, and other updates. Excited about rolling out a new feature? Found an interesting article that you think others would find useful? Post it here.

Working with data

This category covers everything involved with getting your data into GoodData. If you have any questions about data loading, data modeling, or other data issues, this is the place for it.

Making it look good

Already gotten your data into GoodData but struggling with how to make that data digestible and actionable? Visit the “Making it look good” category for help with dashboards, visualizations, and troubleshooting common issues with embedding or internationalization.

Developers and administrators

Administrators can visit this category for help with managing users, releasing new versions, or settings feature flags. Developers can post questions and find information about developing custom user interfaces with the JavaScript library or about backend logic using our REST APIs, Ruby, or Java SDKs.

Already have a question in mind?

Great! That’s what this community was designed for. But before you post your first question, read through these tips to make sure you get the answers you want.

  1. Remember to keep your data private

First and foremost, always be mindful of what data you’re sharing. Keep any personally identifying information out of your questions, and be sure that screenshots you share don’t contain private information.

  1. Check to see if your question has already been answered

Someone else may have had the exact same question that you have, so check to see if it’s already been answered before posting a new question. To check, you can enter relevant terms into the search bar at the top of the page.

  1. Get detailed

When you’re getting ready to ask your question, remember to give your readers enough information to successfully answer you. Be specific about where you’re having trouble, the issue you’re encountering, or what you’re trying to accomplish.

  1. Show what you mean

When in doubt, include a screenshot. It can sometimes be more helpful to show what issues you’re encountering rather than attempt to explain it. (But remember to confirm that your screenshot doesn’t contain sensitive information!)

  1. Ask away!

No one person can have all the answers. We all have different backgrounds and skill levels, so there’s no need to feel awkward or uncomfortable with asking your question. Just ask!
